Dr. Kevin Maskell

As the son of an Air Force pilot, you might think I should have moved around frequently as a child, but I didn’t. We lived in Germany for a few short years after I was born there, but I was mostly raised in South Jersey. I majored in mechanical engineering at Cornell University and joined the Air Force through ROTC in 1998. My wife Heather and I met as undergrads on the East Coast, though she is a Tucson native. We had 10 years of marriage behind us before our two boys came along to complicate life. You could say she brought me to the Old Pueblo, but the Air Force helped. I flew the EC-130H “Compass Call” aircraft based here at Davis-Monthan as a navigator for about 10 years. Yes, I’ve been “over there” a few times.

Many people comment on how big of a change it was, from navigator to dentist. Earning the title “Doctor” wasn’t always my life’s goal, but my story is an example of finding that spark a bit later in life. My father-in-law had some dental implants placed in about 2004, and hearing about the process awakened something in me. I felt that I’d found a calling, and I knew I’d never felt this way about any of my undergraduate design projects. It took me a few years to catch up on the course work I needed to apply – working at night and in between deployments. With Heather’s support, we made it work, and I graduated from Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Arizona in 2012. My post-graduate practice began with an Air Force Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas. I could not be happier. I love the complexity of the human body, and I love how dentistry is a new marriage of materials science, engineering, and artistry every day.

After forty-some years in the dental field, I feel the need to take time for myself and family. Thanks for sharing your lives with me for the past 17 plus years here. To say I’ll miss my co-workers is an understatement! Your concern and support have kept me going many times. Special thanks to Dr. Spaeth and Dr. Bell two great Doctors to work for. With the addition of Dr. Rosenthal and Dr. Maskell, our patients are in excellent hands of four highly talented and educated Doctors.

I will miss all of you and hope to see you again. Until then, take care!

Dental Hygienists

I have been a practicing dental hygienist in Tucson, Arizona since 1995. After attending Arizona State University, I received my Associates of Applied Sciences degree in Dental Hygiene from Pima Community College.

The field of dental hygiene is rapidly evolving. To keep current and continue advancing my clinical skills, I attend numerous continuing education courses in all fields of dentistry as well as read professional publications. I am also a member of the Arizona Dental Association. Most recently, I have become State Certified in Soft Tissue Laser Therapy.

For the past 20 years I have worked in the same dental practice. As of January 2017, I transitioned to Dr. Bell’s practice. Here, I have been afforded the opportunity to treat our patients with the tools and technology of dental hygiene above the standard of care. I am pleased to continue working with all my long-term patients and look forward to establishing new ones. I enjoy treating and maintaining my patient’s periodontal health and smiles at this practice.

I am married and have two amazing children. My wife is a practicing dental hygienist as well. Outside of work, I enjoy family, exercise, sports (especially U o A), and numerous outdoor activities.

I grew up in Pottstown, Pennsylvania and joined the United States Air Force with high aspirations of becoming a dental hygienist. My experience with the USAF was truly a rewarding experience of service and of discipline as a radar technician. But I still dreamed of becoming a dental hygienist. After an honorable discharge, I used my GI Bill towards my degree at Northern Arizona University graduating in 1997 with my bachelors in dental hygiene. I have been passionate about patient care ever since. I am happy to add that I am Laser certified.

I have been an enthusiastic member of ADHA, AzDHA, and SADHA since I graduated and I am the current trustee for SADHA and have been for the last 8 years. I have also served as a delegate and as a trustee for AzDHA.

My free time is enjoyed with family, friends, movies, sewing, crocheting, and spending time outdoors. I am passionate about a holistic approach to life and using Essential Oils.

I am thrilled to be part of a practice that is changing the way dentistry is done. We are using the newest and most advanced technology and equipment to provide the highest degree of comfort and the best comprehensive treatment available today.

Gardening ranks high on my list of favorite things to do. I also enjoy baking/cooking, traveling, getting together with friends, and Arizona Wildcats sports – especially basketball!!!

I care about my patients and believe in being very thorough but with a gentle touch. I like for them to know I’m working with them not on them. I keep up with new continuing education and what’s happening in the field of dentistry and dental hygiene. I have enjoyed working in this office for 17 years.

~ Letter from Deborah ~

To my dearest patients (my extended family),

I wanted to let you know that I am retiring after 32 years of practicing Dental Hygiene (46 years altogether) with Dr. Spaeth.  It has been my privilege and honor to take care of all of you. I have had the good fortune to be part of your oral healthcare team.  I have gotten to know you, your children, and even some of your grandchildren.  I considered myself very blessed.  I am looking forward to spending more time with my hubby, my kids, and of course my “Beardie Boys.”

I will think of you warmly. I am wishing you all good health and keep smiling!

~ Deborah
